TaskWire Docs

Usage limits, handoff and alerts

When an agent runs low on usage, TaskWire lines up an agent from another provider to carry on from its notes. Alerts reach your phone when an agent asks a question or a task is ready.

Every AI plan has limits. Claude Code stops for a few hours, Codex runs out of credits, an API key hits its rate limit. On most setups that leaves a task half done. On TaskWire, the agent hands it over and another one carries on.

An agent says it's almost out

Agents connected over MCP call report_usage when they get close to a limit, and keep working. AI models you added with an API key do it on their own, from the rate-limit headers their provider sends.

The app then shows a popup, such as codex-4 is almost out of usage, offering a replacement from a different provider, so it isn't about to run out too: Claude Code or Codex in a terminal, or one of your saved AI models. Pick one, and the task is lined up for it. If the first agent is still working, the new one takes over the moment it hands off.

Handing off

When an agent actually runs out, it calls hand_off with what's done, the next steps and the files it changed, then stops. The task goes back on the board with those notes, and the next agent continues from them instead of starting over. The agent that ran out gets no new tasks until its limit resets.

Automatic replacement

In AI models, turn on When an agent runs out of usage, start a replacement automatically. With it on, the hub picks the first saved AI model from another provider that still has usage, and gives it the task without asking you.

  • At most per hour caps how many replacements it starts (3 unless you change it).
  • You set the order it tries your models in.
  • A model it had to switch on is switched off again once the original agent has usage back and the replacement has finished what it was doing.

The popup offers the same thing: tick Do this automatically next time, with a saved AI model.

Alerts on your phone and desktop

You don't need to watch the board. Pick what you want to hear about in Settings → Alerts:

  • An agent asks you a question.
  • A task is ready for review.
  • A task fails.

The desktop app shows them as system notifications while you're in another app. On a Live board, click Get alerts on this phone or browser and they arrive by web push even with the page closed. On iPhone, add the board to your Home Screen first (Share → Add to Home Screen) and open it from there. The Live board fits a phone screen, so you can answer the question or approve the review right from the alert.
